NGO Security Scenario #17

You are working in an African country that is teetering on the brink of civil war. A peaceful anti-government protest turns violent and is the spark that's needed to ignite the country. Click the play button below to see what is happening in the streets.

What preparations did you make prior to the present situation? Based on the supplies your safe houses currently have, how long can staff hibernate? Landline and mobile phone services have been disrupted. How will hibernating staff members communicate? Share your thoughts by clicking on COMMENTS below.

I believe the preparation would start as soon as we begin to see a change in the security situation within the country.

The following would be my preparation plan.

1. Send out an internal memorandum to all staff members asking them to list what they would need should we hibernate for a maximum of one month.
2. Based on the feedback, we would then stock piling stocks which would include among others the following

• WATER
• FOODS
• POWER GEN SET
• FUELS
• RADIOS,BATTERIES,
• EXTRA H.F/V.H.F ANTENNAS
• BEDS/SLEEPING BAGS
• MOVIES
• MEDICINES
• CIGARETTES
• MONEY BOTH LOCAL AND FOREIGN CURRENCIES

3. Acquire large water tanks for storing water for bathing, cooking, laundry etc.( In case we have no electricity, then we may have no water)
4. Move all vehicles into a safe garage for safe keeping apart from the ones we need to use.
5. Distribute radios to all staff members who may be hibernating in another area.

COMMUNICATION

We will communicate with each other by Satellite phone, H.F radios and VHF radios
